Memorial Garden

Courtyard

In the courtyard of Asylum Hill Congregational Church is a beautiful Memorial Garden providing a resting place for the sacred remains of loved ones, where family and friends of those interred may spend time in meditation and prayer.

Interment in the Memorial Garden is available to AHCC members and their immediate families. With special permission by the pastoral staff, individuals outside the congregation may also have ashes buried in the garden. As ashes are buried loose in the soil, they must be presented in a container that can be opened. Interment may take place immediately before or after a memorial service in the sanctuary, but a memorial service at Asylum Hill Congregational Church is not required. Interment can also be limited to a simple prayer or a brief religious service in the garden at the time of interment. To find out more, please contact Denise Doran at ddoran@ahcc.org or 860.525.5696.

By design, the garden has been laid out to be its own beautiful and lasting memorial. Due to the relatively small space of the garden, it is inappropriate to place flags, emblems, monuments, floral arrangements or other objects in the garden.

The fee for burial in the Memorial Garden is $500. This fee helps underwrite expenses and pays for an engraved plaque with the deceased’s name, date of birth, and date of death that is part of a permanent memorial at the church. To help defray the costs of landscaping and upkeep of the garden, Memorial Garden gifts can be made at any time to Asylum Hill Congregational Church and designated for this purpose.
