The Sanctuary Choir is comprised of singer/musicians who, through their talent and their spirits, provide musical leadership for Sunday worship services and community events. With 9 professional section leaders and some of the community’s best soloists and instrumentalists, the AHCC Music Ministry is capable of extraordinary musical diversity and quality. In recent years the choir has presented such major works as the Fauré Requiem, Howells Requiem, Duruflé Requiem, Mozart's Requiem and Solemn Vespers, Vivaldi Gloria, J.S. Bach’s Magnificat and Jesu, meine Freude, and the Hartford premiers of René Clausen's A New Creation and Paul Mealor's Stabat Mater. The choir has also partnered with area churches and arts organizations to present major works such as Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, the Duruflé Requiem with CONCORA and the New Haven Symphony, and “The Best of the Duke Ellington Sacred Concerts” with a full stage band, tap dancer, soloists and singers from three historically black churches in Hartford. The choir performed with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra as part of the 2012 Holiday Concerts and since 2013 has been a regular part of the HSO's Celebrate America summer concert at the Talcott Mountain Music Festival in Simsbury, CT.
The AHCC Sanctuary Choir also leads the annual Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival. This musical and dramatic celebration of Epiphany attracts close to 4000 people to five performances each January. In addition, the choir has performed for community events, including The Hartford Prayer Breakfast, “Hartford Cares” Concert, and the Pivotal Hartford Art Exhibit at teh Bushnell. Partnerships with local congregations have included Cathedreal of St. Joseph, Congregation Beth Israel, Faith Congregational Church, and Immanuel Congregational Church. The choir has also been honored to sing for special events and observances of the State Senate and House of Representatives at the Capitol Building.
