On December 2, 2018 the congregation of Asylum Hill Congregational Church called the Rev. Erica A. Thompson as the tenth senior minister, and first female senior minister, in the church’s 150 year history.

Today is a day of unity, joy, and historic change. We have challenged ourselves to be better disciples, to listen to each other, to be open to new thoughts and new directions, and most importantly, to be both open and affirming. Our Search Committee, diverse, thoughtful and engaged, has shown us that even though we are very different, in our love of God, our church and each other, we are the same. I am proud to be a member of this congregation, and delighted to say that we are moving forward, with eyes, hearts and minds open to confront the challenges of our times together, with the leadership of our new Senior Minister, The Reverend Erica Thompson.

Following the vote affirming Rev. Thompson, she addressed the congregation: “This is a wonderful day for Asylum Hill Congregational Church. I am excited, and proud, and grateful, that you have chosen as a community to say “yes” to my leadership. This is a day of thanksgiving for us as a community of faith, and all that we are going to do together in the days, and months, and years to come.”

Rev. Thompson will be installed on Sunday, January 27, 2019 with a ceremony celebrating the church’s rich history and looking ahead toward a bright future.
