It was about two years ago that I addressed the congregation and spoke about my entering into a season of “yes.” At that time, I assumed that would lead to serving our church in new ways, supporting committees, and leading initiatives. What I did not know, was that a much larger calling was beckoning me.

AHCC member Patti Beckett has headed the Hartford Creative Contest for the past five years, coordinating the committee's outreach to schools and the community and the monthly meetings for committee members involved in judging, fundraising, publicity, and publishing the book of winning entries.

We are writing to share news of one way AHCC is working toward justice, mercy, and humility.

The world has changed so much in a short time, but in the midst of the change, some toxic and pervasive realities still persist. As Christians and as a church, we have a crucial role to play in bringing about positive change, expressed beautifully in Micah 6:8:

This would normally be the last month of my term as Moderator, and the season of the church’s Annual Meeting, where incoming lay leaders are elected and begin the transition into office. Because of COVID-19, the Annual Meeting has been delayed to no later than September.

On Friday, April 3, 2020, the Executive Committee voted that Asylum Hill Congregational Church should apply for the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) of the federal Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
