Visitors and those contemplating membership have opportunities during the program year to formally join the church. Each new member cycle consists of three components:
The first is an Information Session offered several times a year on a drop-in basis after a 10:15am service. These sessions are lay led and offer general information about the church's mission and programs for those exploring membership.

Once someone has decided to join the church, the second component in the membership process is Orientation. The intent of the orientation is to further acquaint prospective members with the ministries of the church, program staff and the meaning and responsibilities of membership. New members will also spend time getting to know their fellow new members.

The third component of membership is the New Member Sunday when new members are formally presented to the congregation and received into the life of AHCC during the 10:15am service of worship. During the reception of new members, sponsors, or "angels," stand with new members on the sanctuary chancel as a symbolic gesture of welcome and support.

The ceremony during the service is followed by a celebratory reception hosted by the Board of Membership, lay leadership and clergy. The reception is a fun, informal gathering of new members and their families, which serves as a warm welcome to our church family.

Following New Member Sunday, angels help new members find their way (literally and figuratively) as they become engaged in the life of the church by inviting new members to events, passing along information, providing introductions during coffee hour or simply calling to say, "Hello!"

A series of three classes is offered to new members after joining. This is an opportunity to form bonds with their classmates and to delve deeper into the life and practices of the church.  A member of the clergy is present at each class.
