Twenty-five years later, we pause to remember the events of September 11, 2001 and the lives, families, communities, and world that forever changed that day.
We invite you to enter and participate in whatever way feels meaningful to you.
There is no set order. There is no required activity. You may spend a few moments or as long as you wish. You may sit quietly, or move through either one or both stations at your own pace.
REMEMBER | Light a candle. Offer a prayer for:
Those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001
Those who survived and continue to carry the experience
Families, friends, and communities who experienced loss
First responders, firefighters, police officers, emergency workers, and volunteers
Those who became ill or lost their lives in the years that followed
Members of the Muslim, Arab, Sikh, and other communities who experienced hatred, fear, or discrimination in the aftermath
Those who continue to work for understanding across differences
RENEW | Carry hope forward.
I Hope Card – Write a hope you hold for our community, our country, or our world.
Leave your card here as a shared expression of hope for the future.
I Promise Card – Write one small act of peace, compassion, reconciliation, or connection that you will carry with you. Take your card home as a reminder of your promise.
Perhaps you will:
Reach out to someone who is lonely
Forgive – or take a step toward forgiveness
Volunteer your time
Serve someone in your community
Listen to someone whose experience is different from your own
Repair a relationship
Stand against hatred or prejudice
Advocate for peace
Choose compassion when division would be easier
We remember what happened. We honor those who were lost. We choose what comes next.
