GHIAA Power Summit 2024
GHIAA 2024 POWER SUMMIT
Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 at Weaver High School
To fellow AHCC members interested in social justice and outreach:
The GHIAA Core Team invites you to this year’s GHIAA 2024 Power Summit on Thursday, November 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 at Weaver High School, 415 Granby Street, Hartford, CT. 06112.
We are sure that you have questions.
- What is GHIAA? Founded in 2019, GHIAA is made up of 52 diverse faith communities and allied institutions. They have organized together for justice in the Greater Hartford region, using their collective power to make concrete positive changes in our communities. Attached is a brochure that describes GHIAA, lists its 52 member institutions, and describes the impact of some of its work since 2019.
- What are GHIAA’s issues for 2024? Attached is the GHIAA Issues Update which describes the three areas that GHIAA will concentrate on this year: Housing Affordability, State Fiscal Policy, and Combating Religious and Racial Hate. GHIAA will continue to stay involved in the MIRA polluted land remediation issue that it worked on in 2023.
There will be opportunities for everyone to join a team working on one of these issues following the Power Summit.
- What is the Power Summit? Attached is an invitation to the Power Summit. The Summit is the way we demonstrate to public officials and decision makers that a very large number of their constituents care about and demand action on specific issues. Key leaders will be on stage to hear our goals and commit to helping us achieve them. The number of people in attendance drives their commitment. Being part of this large group of committed citizens is inspiring to all of us, and we all benefit from hope and connection to others committed to justice.
- Why should I come? Turn out is a huge part of GHIAA’s work, just like it is in elections. GHIAA congregations have committed to attendance of 1,000 people, diverse in religion, race, geography, and socio-economics who share a commitment to social justice and positive change in our region and are calling for specific action to advance our issues. By showing up at the Summit, you will be showing your support for GHIAA to the legislators and power brokers who attend. We hope to influence them to take action. GHIAA needs you! Based on the size of our congregation, AHCC has pledged that 80 members will come to the Summit. Please help us meet that goal! GHIAA needs you!
Please email jjgeisler@comcast.net if you plan to attend, and note whether you want to carpool.
