Bonhoeffer Lenten Study & Supper

Join us beginning Wednesday, March 12 for a six-week Lenten program exploring the extraordinary life and teachings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The program will offer a deep dive into the legacy of this courageous Lutheran pastor, theologian, and modern-day martyr.

Each week, we’ll start with a light meal at 5:45 PM, followed by a rich discussion at 6:30 PM. We’ll conclude by 7:45 PM.

Bonhoeffer lived during the turbulent years of Nazi Germany, where he opposed Adolf Hitler’s regime as an active member of the Resistance. His writings, particularly The Cost of Discipleship and Confessing Church, challenge Christians to reject “cheap grace” and instead embrace a costly, faithful discipleship rooted in the Word of God. His commitment to justice led to his arrest, and while imprisoned by the Gestapo, he wrote Letters and Papers from Prison, a powerful collection of thoughts that continue to inspire others today.

Throughout our program, we will engage in a discussion about the highly controversial new movie about Bonhoeffer, reflecting on its portrayal of his life and lessons.

The series will run for six weeks during Lent, meeting on March 12, 19, 26, and April 2, 9, and 16. Our clergy will join the discussions, which will be facilitated by AHCC member Jim Robertson, an ordained UCC minister and lawyer who has studied Bonhoeffer’s work extensively.

We invite you to come, reflect, and grow in your understanding of Bonhoeffer’s radical discipleship and its relevance for our world today.
