SUSO Welcomes Rev. Gordon Bates

June 11, 2017 - 11:30am to 12:30pm

Rev. Gordon Bates

Rev. Gordon Bates is a retired UCC minister and former executive director of the Connecticut Prison Association, an organization known for its leading role in prison reform in the state. The association was formed over 100 years ago to ameliorate the conditions of criminal defendants and people in prison, improve the discipline and administration of local jails and state prisons, and furnish assistance and encouragement to people returning to their communities after incarceration. With its office in Hartford, it continues today as a Community Partner in Action.

Rev. Bates’ talk will be a great follow-up to our visit from Wally Lamb. Rev. Bates will speak about what is currently being done to assist former inmates with re-entry. Gordon’s book, “The Connecticut Prison Association and the Search for Reformatory Justice” was published in January 2017. With his knowledge and expertise we are hopeful that he will teach us and guide us as we explore ways that we as a faith community can be of help.

All are encouraged to attend.
