Canvass FAQs

What is the Canvass goal this year?
In order to achieve a balanced budget for 2010, we must raise at least $1.365 million through the Every Member Canvass.  We are asking everyone - new members, old-timers, and non-member friends who regularly participate in the life of the church - to support AHCC with a pledge.

We encourage those who pledged last year to consider increasing their pledges by between 2.5 and 5 percent if they are able to do so. We hope those who are in a position to increase by more than 5 percent will do so, as your financial leadership is critical to the sustained health of our church.

In challenging economic times, we know individuals and families experience pressures and tough choices. We hope you will be inspired by what your church means to you and choose to make stretching in support of AHCC a personal priority.

How is pledging different from giving money to the offering during worship?
We certainly appreciate and even count on the donations made weekly via the offering. However, they are variable and we cannot rely on them in planning our budget for next year. Pledges provide a formal record of funds we can expect during the coming year.

How much should I pledge?
Pledging is a very personal decision made based on a number of circumstances, including how much of one's budget one is able to set aside for contributions. Some people opt to pledge a certain amount per month (e.g., $25 or $100 or $175 or more). Others base their pledge on a percentage of their available income; for example, some people who are able choose to tithe (giving 10% of one's income to the church).

As you plan your charitable giving for next year, we ask you to make AHCC a priority. Pledging generously is a wonderful way to express gratitude and in effect "give back" to the church that gives us so much.

Do I have options in terms of how I fulfill my pledge to AHCC?
Yes. Pledges may be fulfilled in one of four ways:
•    Weekly offering using pledge envelopes
•    Lump sum payments
•    Automatic withdrawal from your bank account (new option)
•    Stock contributions

What about pledges of time and talent? Do you just care about money?
AHCC could not function without generous donations of our members' and friends' time and talents. In this regard AHCC is richly blessed and so grateful. Please contact the church office to explore opportunities to contribute in this way.
