How do I become a member?

Becoming a Member

Visitors and those contemplating membership have many opportunities (or cycles) during the program year to formally join the church. Each new member cycle consists of two events:

The first event is an Orientation. The intent of the orientation is to provide specific information about the church's mission and programs. The orientation will also acquaint prospective members with the ministries of the church program staff, the beliefs of the church and the meaning and responsibilities of membership.

The second event, New Member Sunday, is the sacred moment when new members are presented to the congregation and received into the life of AHCC during the 10:15 a.m. service of worship. The reception ceremony is followed by a celebratory luncheon hosted by the New Member Committee and the clergy. The luncheon is a special time, not only in the life of new members, but also for the entire church family as we officially welcome folks into fuller fellowship.

During the reception of new members, sponsors, or "angels," stand with new members on the sanctuary chancel as a symbolic gesture of welcome and support. Following New Member Sunday, angels help new members find their way (literally and figuratively) as they enter into the life of the church by inviting new members to events, passing along information, extending their hand during coffee hour or simply calling to say, "Hello!"
