About Spirit Hill...
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Parents, does this sound familiar?
"I cant get my kids to come to Sunday School.
They say
its boring..."
All
churches struggle these days with how to make 2000-year-old stories relevant
to our children of the new millennium. When society needs the
churchs influence the most, how can we make the example of Jesus Christs
life on earth relevant to our legacy? Asylum Hill Congregational Church rises to
the challenge of getting kids involved and engaged with a multi-dimensional
educational concept, named by its children "Spirit Hill." Encourage
your kids to try it once. We dont think youll have to ask them again.
Instead, theyll be making sure youre out of bed and ready to go each
Sunday!
Q. What is Spirit Hill?
A.Named
by AHCC's children, 'Spirit
Hill' is
a new church school model where children experience God's Word
through art, drama, storytelling, music, worship, video production,
cooking and more! Some children will be in self-contained classrooms
(infants through 1st
grade) while others (2nd through 6th grade) will rotate each week through
rooms transformed into a temple, theater, art center and newsroom. Spirit
Hill is
a place where each child's individual strengths and talents are recognized
and used as a springboard for developing their relationship with
God.
Q. How has church school
changed?
A.
Asylum
Hill Church School has always been dedicated to the care and spiritual
development of its children.
Spirit Hill will continue this covenant. The theology, values,
and traditions will remain the same. The methodology is different and
is based on sound educational
principles. It is a practical solution to our growing church school.
Q. How will my child know where to go?
A. Children
in K through 6th grade will have a shepherd to lead them to their classrooms.
In addition, a mailing will go to each child's
home with the rotational schedule. We will also publish the schedule
in the Hill Church NEWS and post it on a bulletin board that
can be checked each Sunday. View the Spirit
Hill schedule.
THE SPIRIT
HILL CONCEPT
Spirit Hill's Workshop Rotation Model and
self contained classrooms are based on Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences,
which states
that children do not learn only from lecture and reading, and that
different children learn in different ways. As AHCC/Spirit Hill's
children rotate through curriculum units - learning biblical stories
through art, drama, film, story telling, video production and cooking
- they experience God`s Word. Children have a chance to learn in
a way that directly utilizes their own particular gifts. They get
to meet God in a way that speaks to their own heart. They are encouraged
to grow in their faith in a way that makes sense to them. The result?
Christian Education at Asylum Hill that brings about the transformation
of our young people's minds and hearts.
