Components of this model are incorporated into the self-contained classrooms
for infants through first graders. The 2nd through 6th graders study
one epic Biblical story for a four week period and rotate through four
of nine different rooms that fully support the multiple intelligences,
rotation model.
Infants and Toddlers: They learn that they are safe and loved. They hear classical
music, see bright and stimulating colors and pictures, play with age appropriate
toys and are loved and nurtured by a qualified childcare staff under the leadership
of Luis Rodriquez. Their rooms are located in a newly renovated space on the
Lower Level where they enjoy the child friendly fountains for easy hand washing
and also the bathroom sized just for them.
Three and Four Year olds: The theme for the year is Child of God and children
learn: Why They are Special, Gifts from God and the Celebration of Jesus Birthday.
Their rooms are located in a newly renovated child designed space located on
the Lower Level where they enjoy the child friendly fountains for easy hand
washing and the bathrooms sized just for them. They are taught by qualified
child care providers and parents under the leadership of Luis Rodriquez, our
Director of Childcare.
Kindergarten, lst and 2nd Graders: These children begin their Sunday a.m.
(10:15) in our newly restored and magnificent music hall, McKeith, where they
meet their adult shepherds and enjoy 15 minutes of music led by choir members.
Following the music program, the shepherds lead their groups to their respective
classrooms:
The Kindergarten class theme for the year is God’s
Covenant and the children will learn about Noah, the Prodigal Son and the
Christmas Story. The
class is located in a newly renovated room, located in the (Lower Level - Ground
Floor), with a child friendly fountain and bathrooms that are sized just for
them.
The lst Grade class is located on the (Upper Level
- 2nd Floor), and the theme for the year is God’s Covenant. They will
also learn about Noah, the Prodigal Son and the Christmas Story and lessons
will build on the ones they
had in Kindergarten. Their room was designed and painted several years ago
by John Atwater, AHCC member and artist, and remains a favorite space for children
today.
The 2nd graders are part of the rotation model, and adult shepherds will lead
them from McKeith Hall to their rooms and remain with them. Check the grid
below to learn more about their weekly room assignment. Parents are free to
accompany their children until they are comfortable rotating to a different
classroom each Sunday.
3rd – 6th Grade: Children begin worship in the sanctuary with their
families and recess to Drew Hall (fellowship hall) where they meet their shepherds
who guide them to their classrooms. Judy Carrithers, a teacher by profession
and AHCC member, will work with the children during September and October to
create a “Walking with Jesus” mural which will be displayed in
Drew Hall in late Fall. Check the grid below to learn more about their weekly
room assignment and weekly lessons.
